The Historical Standish Depot is offering a train excursions!
the Blue Water Michigan Chapter of The National Railway Historical Society will be running two day trips from Standish to Grayling, in Michigan on October 2 and 3, 2010 during Depot Days. The excursions are called the Michigan Fall Color Tour and leave from Standish, Michigan, each day at 9.30 am arriving in Grayling at 1.00 pm. The same train leaves Grayling at 4.00 pm arriving back in Standish at 6.15 pm in time to join in the other aspects of the Depot Days celebration.
The passengers will have time in Grayling for lunch. They can then visit many of the attractions including the Crawford County Historical Museum, a Train show, Swap and Display which is also hosted by the museum. Harvestfest will also be in progress along Michigan Avenue in Grayling. Free shuttle buses will be available.
The excursion trains will include air-conditioned coaches, cars offering beverages, snack and souvenir merchandise and exclusive First Class and Ultra Class sections. The ticket prices for this all-day package are: Adult Coach ($89.00) Child Coach ($59.00); First Class (no dinner – $119.00), (with dinner – $159.00) and Ultra Class with dinner ($199.00). Ultra Class service includes exclusive use of an observation-dome-lounge car. Seating in this car during the morning or afternoon offers hors d'oeuvres and beverages all day, lunch and dinner. There is also a $5.00 handling fee for each ticket.
It is important that those wishing to take part remember that temperatures in Northern Michigan can vary greatly in mid-October and dress comfortably, perhaps even bringing an umbrella. Speaking to one of the staff at the depot I was told "It would be wise to register beforehand, though it is expected that there will be plenty for the present, many seats have already been taken. Please indicate date of preference when making your registration."
The Depot is located at 107 N Main Street Standish Michigan at the junction between Cedar Street and Main Street.
