Northeast Michigan Prescription for Health Program welcomes anyone interested in improving their health to participate in a six week nutrition workshop. Classes meet once a week for an hour and participants receive two $5 vouchers for every class attended to purchase fruits and vegetables at farmers markets and local grocery stores. Participants learn healthy cooking and exercise tips, and the best ways to select and save money when buying fresh seasonal produce. Participating counties include Alcona, Alpena, Cheboygan, Crawford, Iosco, Montmorency, Ogemaw, Oscoda, and Presque Isle. Space may be limited, pre-registration is required. Iosco County residents can register by calling the MSU Extension Office at 362-3449. Iosco classes are scheduled for Mondays, July 10 – August 14, 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the Good News Lutheran Church, in Whittemore. In Ogemaw county classes will be held on Mondays, July 10-August 21, from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. There will be no class on July 31. Ogemaw County residents can register by calling Melissa Prohaska at 989-846-4111. Northeast Michigan Prescriptions for Health is funded through a grant from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund.
