Memorial Day Weekend Events

Many activities will be taking place in observance of Memorial Day and all those who gave their lives for our country!  There are numerous activities and events in and around the Listening Area this weekend where you can pay your respects and remember all those who gave so much!

 

 

 

Oscoda Township:

 

Friday May 25th, 9:00am

Pinecrest Cemetery. Placement of American Flags on the graves of deceased Veterans by The Oscoda American Legion Post 274. Public is welcome!  Flags remain in place till Veterans Day

 

Monday May 28th, 11:00am

Memorial Day Observance Ceremony at the American Legion Hall, 349 South State Street.  Oscoda American Legion with VFW Post 3735.  Luncheon will be served following the ceremony.  Public is welcome. The public may then join our veterans at the Circle of Flags at Veterans Memorial Park of Northeast Michigan for a flag raising ceremony at 12:00pm.  The park is located at the entrance to the former ar base, just off F-41 Oscoda.

Tawas:

 

Saturday May 26th. 2:00pm

Tawas City Veterans Park, Us-23 & Matthews Street

Tawas Area Veterans Honor Guard

Unveiling of the new Bench donated by the Kendall Family

Unveiling of four granite walls which are engraved with 1,800 names of veterans who lived in Iosco County prior to entering the service.

The Public is welcome!

 

Monday May 28th, 9:00am

Memorial Day Observance Ceremony, Memory Gardens Cemetery on Meadow View Dr, in Tawas City.  VFW Post 5678

 

Monday May 28th, 11:00am

Memorial Day Parade.  Parade will start at the Post office in East Tawas on Newman Street and conclude near the DNR State Dock at Harbor Park.

Following the parade, a ceremony will take place at the American Legion Cemetery

On Lincoln Street. East Tawas.

 

 

Whittemore:

 

Saturday May 26th, 11:00am

Memorial Day Parade.  Parade Route from The Whittemore Speedway to the Whittemore Chamber of Commerce, M-65

 

Following the parade:

Memorial Day Observance Ceremony, on the Chamber Grounds.

In Attendance, VFW Post 7435, VVA Chapter 882 & the American Legion Post.

After The Service, Chamber of Commerce planned activities.

 

 

Hale:

 

Monday May 28th, 10:00am

Memorial Day Observance Parade

Parade Route will be from Building Center to the former Plainfield Township Hall, M-65.

 

Monday May 28th, 11:00am

Following the Parade and a flag raising ceremony on the property, the Hale Area Veterans will go to the Esmond Evergreen Cemetery for a Memorial Day Service which

Includes: National Anthem, Firing Squad and Roll Call.  All veterans who have been laid to rest will have their name read aloud!  After the ceremony everyone is invited to a light lunch.

 

After Lunch Veteran groups will continue services at several other cemeteries:

 

Oak Grove Cemetery in Goodar Township

South Branch Logan Township Cemetery on State & Sage Lake Road

Pioneer Cemetery on Old State Road in Grant Township

Reno Township Cemetery on Towerline Road in Whittemore

St James Catholic Cemetery in Whittemore

Burleigh Cemetery on Wilson Creek Road in Whittemore.

Tuesday May 29th, 11:00am

Memorial Day Service will be held on the courthouse lawn on Tuesday, May 29th at 1:00am.  Local veterans will gather during this public ceremony to remember those who have been lost! Lunch Veteran

 

 

Arenac County:

 

Monday May 28th, Arenac County VFW Post 3724 members will meet at Cedar Valley at 7:30am.  The Cemetery visits will proceed as Follows:

 

8:45am - Cedar Valley Cemetery

9:30am - Omer Cemetery

10:15am - Linwood Cemetery

11:00am - Sims Cemetery

 

AuGres:

 

Monday May 28th 1:00pm - Parade Start

Lineup at the city docks at 12:15pm.  There will be a program following the parade at the school in AuGres.

 

Standish:

Monday May 28th  12:00pm Parade Start.

Lineup at the Industrial Park Road.  Ceremonies will be held at the courthouse.

 

 

Ogemaw County:

 

Monday May 28th  10:15am - 11:15am Alger Cemetery ceremoney, put on by the Alger Parks & Recreation.

 

Monday May 28th 11:00am - Memorial Day Parade in Downtown West Branch presented by The Ogemaw County Veterans Affairs Office.  The parade will begin at North Second Street and travel to the Ogemaw County Veterans Memorial across the street from the county building where a ceremoney will be held after the parade.

 

Wednesday May 30th 11:00am -  A Memorial Day ceremoney will be held at the Mills Township Cemetery on Elbow Lake Road put on by the Skidway Lake American Legion.

Monday May 28th:

Mikado Township Cemetery, 10:15am

Village of Lincoln Fire Hall, 11:00am
