Wishing Tree Fundraiser

Wishing Tree Fundraiser Announced Tawas City: Hospice Angelic Care and Angelic’s Attic & Hospice Thrift Store will launch its Wishing Tree fundraising campaign November 23. By contributing $1.00 donors have an opportunity to write down a wish specific for themselves, or to honor their friends and family members. The funds raised will help support individuals needing a helping hand for the Christmas season. The community is invited to stop at either the Hospice Angelic Care office located at 314 M-55, Tawas City or the Angelic’s Attic & Hospice Thrift Store located at 1250 S. US 23, Tawas City. The Wish will be written down on gold foiled paper, rolled, tied with a gold ribbon and then placed on the Tree that will be illuminated throughout the holiday season. The Wishing Trees are located in the front lobby entrance to both the Hospice Angelic Care office and the front window of the Angelic’s Attic & Hospice Thrift Store Window. In keeping with tradition, the lighting of the trees will take place the day after Thanksgiving to mark the beginning of the holiday season. The trees will stay illuminated until the first of the New Year. The staff and volunteers have set a goal to raise funds that will be used to purchase needed items that chosen disadvantaged families indicate are a necessity to getting through the winter months. The community can support the Wishing Tree by making a $1.00 donation to purchase their special golden wish that is hung on the Wishing Tree. Every time a wish is made, an angel gets her wings. For more information, call Royann at 989-362-6600.

LIGHTS FOR LEARNING RESCHEDULED

From 7:00PM to 8:00PM

We have had to reschedule Oscoda Education Foundation Lights for Learning from December 11 to December 18. “Lights for Learning” will be held Tuesday December 18, 2012 at 7:00 pm. This year’s celebration will be held at Mark’s Park located on River Road between Paddletown Hardware and historic Oscoda Elementary. This celebration is to honor people who brighten our lives or in memory of family or friends who are forever in our hearts... The lights on the tree and the luminaries each represent special people in our lives. This is also a celebration of our Oscoda Area Schools community—which is a broad almost 400 square miles area. This is a time of coming together with our young students, former graduates, former scholarship recipients, and the community. We were fortunate to have some of our Oscoda students and former graduates to help us welcome in the season. The names of all those honored with a light will appear on the “Lights for Learning” displays in schools during the holiday, and their names will be read at our lighting celebration. Your gift of $5 will purchase a light on the tree at Mark’s Park. For each donation, a special holiday card will be sent to the honoree or family to let them know that you have thought of them in this special way. All proceeds will benefit the Education Foundation and its work to provide educational opportunities in our community. We do have special deals for Businesses and Corporations interested in honoring their employees for a group rate. Light bulbs can be purchased through the Oscoda Education Foundation at 3550 River Road, Oscoda, Michigan 48750. People attending will be kept warm with hot chocolate, caroling, and free books will be available for children. Oscoda Aread Schools PTO will also be raffling off a large Christmas Stocking for an attending child. Lights for Learning are part of the Oscoda Education Foundation. The foundation was formed in 1992 by a group of volunteers who really wanted to maximize every existing educational opportunity for Oscoda Area School students, staff and to create some new ones as well. Since that time, the Foundation has grown to be known for doing just that. To date, the foundation has given nearly $400,000 to well over 100 area students and teachers in the form of grants and scholarships. Together, we were able to offer 2012 scholarships totaling $45,350.00 to Oscoda Area School Seniors and offer a grant to sponsor the Rachael’s Challenge at our schools. It has been very gratifying for this organization to be able to partner the resources and passions of our generous donors with the compelling needs of our students. Such partnerships fulfill our mission by providing opportunities which otherwise wouldn’t have existed. All of these things are made possible through the generosity of community donations. The Oscoda Education Foundation is a grass roots effort to meet the needs of area students. If you are interested in more information on the Oscoda Education Foundation you can contact Mrs. Barnhart at 989-739-2033. We will see you on the 18th! Let someone know they brighten your life!!!!
